The slash (/), also forward slash or, in formal names, solidus, is the stroke leaning to the right. It means "or" (yes/no, he/she) and "per" (km/h, $5/month), separates the parts of a date (10/31/2026) and the numerator from the denominator in plain-text fractions (3/4), and divides lines of poetry quoted inline. Typography has dedicated relatives — the fraction slash ⁄ and the division slash ∕ (U+2215) for mathematical typesetting — and the backslash \ leans the other way.
On US and UK keyboards / has its own key left of the right Shift (shared with ?), and the numeric keypad has a / key too. On iPhone it is on the 123 page; on Android on the ?123 page.

In Programming
/ is division in programming (in Python 3, / is true division and // floor division) and the path separator in URLs and on Linux and macOS (/usr/bin, https://example.com/page); a leading / makes a path absolute. // starts a line comment in C, Java, JavaScript and PHP, and /* … */ a block comment in those languages and in CSS. HTML closes tags with it (</p>), and JavaScript and Perl delimit regex literals with it (/abc/i).
